Laminitis

LAMINITIS

Tim has a particular interest in hooves and laminitis and is able to both liaise with your farrier and provide remedial hoof care himself where a farrier is not available. Up-to-date knowledge of all modern farriery materials and shoeing principles enables a full and frank discussion of the options, which may include Steward clogs, glue-on shoes such as Imprints and aluminium heart bar shoes. We keep a variety of materials and take an innovative approach to deal with emergency situations and have had successful outcomes even when the pedal bone has been close to prolapse.

In all cases we will offer full nutritional and management advice and also offer a full range of endocrine tests for trigger-factors such as Cushing's Disease and Equine Metabolic Syndrome.

Remedial Hoof Care

Because we understand things from the farrier's perspective this helps us to engage in a constructive relationship and consider a whole range of options. These will vary according to the size of horse, severity of the episode and progress that is being made.

Endocrine Disorders

Blood work for equine Cushing's Disease (properly termed Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction) is regularly undertaken and is particularly common in horses over 15. If your horse is prone to laminitis, is drinking or urinating excessively or is losing condition then contact us for a chat about testing. We also offer blood tests and treatment for Equine Metabolic Syndrome. Both conditions can drive recurrent laminitic episodes and it is possible for the same horse to have both.
