Euthanasia

EUTHANASIA

When the time comes to say goodbye you can rest assured that we will handle things with utmost care and respect and are able to arrange collection if required. There are two methods of euthanasia: injection and free bullet and we are in the unique position to be able to offer both to suit your needs and preferences.

Injection

Using this method involves placing a catheter in the neck, usually after clipping a small area. An injection of barbituate drug will then be drawn up and administered slowly so that your horse will appear to just fall asleep. It is very peaceful but can take a few minutes to place the catheter.

Free Bullet

This method involves a single shot to the head. It is very rapid but you should expect significant bleeding and some twitching. It is particularly suitable for needle-shy horses or horses with heart issues where injection may cause distress or take longer to work.
